Stevens Point man creates mural for Town of Rome

Kiba Freeman was selected out of five finalists to spearhead this project. “It’s nice to kind of be the first to start something in the area and hopefully do a lot more public art and reinvigorate certain parts of the area,” said Freeman.

The mural is Freeman’s largest ever. It’s more than 2,000 square feet and he will use almost 200 cans of spray paint to complete it.

“I do a lot of vibrant work and whimsy and flow space things, it’s kind of nice to be able to do a full nature scene which is basically about the Town of Rome and a lot of the things they hold dear,” said Freeman.

Call for Mural Artists

Rome, Adams County, WI (March 24, 2023) – The Town of Rome is excited to be seeking artists for the community’s first public art project. The project will be a mural on the east and south sides of the Town’s Public Works building. This building is highly visible from State Highway 13 making it an excellent location to kickoff additional public art projects throughout the community.

The mural project guidelines are general. Artists should be imaginative in making use of this space. The proposed building is metal and artists are encouraged to paint directly on to the building, however, we will accept proposals that use other mediums instead of the metal siding. An ideal project will capture the identity of our community, be vibrant and welcoming, and recognize the significance of this being the Town’s first public art display.

Bird City Wisconsin Newsletter --Chasing a ‘Big Year’ birding record in the Town of Rome

“I birded Adams quite a bit last year after moving back from Asia and the emphasis on the local during this pandemic. About four months into 2020, I saw in eBird that a well known name in Wisconsin birding, the late Rev. Samuel Robbins, Jr., had a 219 year in 1955, so for kicks I set out to try to beat it as I had a decent foundation for a Big Year from the first four months.”—Richard Wagner
