2022 Christmas Bird Count in the Town of Rome

On January 4, 2022 Rome, Wisconsin alongside the National Audubon Society participated in the longest-running community science survey, the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC)! Birders and nature enthusiasts alike take part in this tradition, many rising before dawn to participate. This year’s count was our most successful yet! 15 volunteers counted 2,990 bird with a total of 41 different species. Rome is a proud “Bird City” we are thrilled to have this tradition as part of our holiday season.

This was Rome’s 4th Christmas Bird Count. We work together with expert birders to cover our count area. Some volunteer surveyors’ bird from home, others walk public lands/trails, and some drive their area with the windows down listening for bird calls. Most of the count happens between 7am – noon but a few surveyors rise early to call to owls!
